Why these are our favorite fall cakes
Moist, tender and full of fall flavors, these are, hands down, our favorite fall cakes. But what makes them so good?
Each recipe is tried and true to ensure it produces a delicious cake, and each post is full of helpful tips to get you there the first time.
You'll find the usual fall flavor suspects like apple, pumpkin and spice, but we've also included a few less common flavors like sweet potato (and I can't recommend the sweet potato cake more).
And, finally, these cakes come in a variety of sizes. Whether you need a show-stopping layer cake for an event or an easy snack cake that can be whipped up on a weeknight, I promise there's a cake here to fit your needs.
1. Apple Cider Donut Cake
If the sight of falling leaves makes you immediately want to wander the pumpkin patches, a warm apple cider donut in hand, then this is the cake for you! This small (6-cup) apple cider donut cake is moist, full of apple flavor (from both apple cider and apple sauce) and coated in cinnamon and sugar.
2. Pecan Upside Down Cake
Did you catch that gooey caramel pull?? *Drools* This single-layer pecan upside-down cake combines a tender spice cake with an ooey-gooey (corn syrup-free) sauce and boatloads of pecans. It's been a favorite at our Thanksgiving table for years.
3. Krydderkake (Norwegian Spice Cake)
A favorite from my time in Norway, this easy Scandinavian spice cake really does have it all: The most tender texture, a delicious blend of spices (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and nutmeg) and juuuust the right amount of cream cheese frosting.
4. Yogurt Plum Cake
If you're sleeping on plums as a late-summer, early-fall dessert, you're missing out! This easy yogurt plum cake features a tangy Greek yogurt lemon cake base, juicy brown sugar-dusted plums and a satisfying almond crunch.
5. Sweet Potato Layer Cake
If your favorite sweet potato casserole was a decadent layer cake, it'd be this! Three layers of spiced sweet potato cake, a 5-minute marshmallow buttercream frosting and a caramel drip make this sweet potato cake one of my absolute fall favorites.
6. Caramel Apple Snack Cake
This caramel apple cake is the epitome of fall - an impossibly moist spice cake, sun-ripened apples, nutty brown butter frosting and a rich swirl of caramel.
7. Pumpkin Baked Alaska
This pumpkin baked Alaska really is a showstopper! With a layer of pound cake, a homemade no-churn pumpkin ice cream and a billowy, toasted meringue, this is one dessert that's sure to impress.
8. No Bake Pecan Pie Cheesecake
Pecan pie but make it cheesecake! This no-bake dessert features a crisp caramel and pecan topping, a whipped cheesecake filling and a spicy gingersnap crust.
